Brdo estate is a natural mixture of wooded, grassy and watery environments that unavoidably intertwine. The woods are due to their extremely aesthetic function proclaimed wooded areas for special purposes, while the whole area of the Brdo estate belongs to the Natura 2000 sites.
This oasis in the middle of the Carniolan plain consists of a collection of natural valuables that visitors can admire on nearly 500 ha big controlled area.
26 animal species found at Brdo estate are classified as highly endangered species in Slovenia. 11 vegetal species and 37 animal species found here are considered vulnerable.
Until today there have been altogether recorded 1.140 vegetal species and 1.165 animal species.
In compliance with the Berne Convention we conserve the animal and vegetal species habitats.
At Brdo live 16 animal species of vertebrae that are enlisted on the European nature protection lists: Lesser Horseshoe bat, birds Nightjar, Great Bittern, Great Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, Purple Heron, Black Stork, Ferruginous Duck, Ural Owl, Common Kingfisher, Common Merganser, Grey-headed Woodpecker, and Black Woodpecker; Italian Crested Newt, Yellow-Bellied Toad, fish Mediterranean Barbel, Stag Beetle, and butterfly Callimorpha quadripunctaria.
Parti-coloured dragonflies like Beautiful Demoiselle, Green Hawker, Southern Skimmer, Large Red Damselfly, Scarlet Dragonfly, and Large Golden-ringed Dragonfly are cheerful addition to the watery areas and ornaments to the embankment vegetation.
You can visit the controlled environment of the Brdo estate with our guide who will adapt the programme to your wishes and time you have at your disposal. Observing the nature is interesting by itself, yet if you are interested we can also present you the woody and watery areas of the estate.
